Tomorrow we should be able to pay off enough debt to take us below $7,000. It will be SO nice. Right now, our balance is the same as it was one year ago. After tomorrow, our balance will be about where it's been (excluding last year) for the last....well...too many years. It will be nice to get below that mark as well. Each thousand is another step up and out of this hole and I can't wait to be out of it!!
Yesterday I was feeling like we are in this debt prison. I'm always talking and thinking like...."When I get outta here, I'm gonna do __________", "When we get out of this, let's buy ________", "When we finish, let's __________". Okay - so I've never been in prison and maybe 'they' only say that kind of thing in the movies. But no matter.....I can't wait to get outta the debt clink!
The list seems to grow longer and longer. Water softener, yard, closet organizers, paint, furniture, fence, trees, deck, clothes, vacations....on and on it goes. It will take a lot of focus to just do one thing at a time and wait to do it until we have the money saved. But....I don't foresee it being too difficult to NOT use the credit card. I don't EVER want to do this again!!

You know what we did? We bought a $150 vacuum the other day to replace my vacuum that broke (which was like $80, but its only a year old and broken so we decided to get something a little sturdier) and we justified it by calculating our coupon savings. I keep track of this stuff for this reason. True, its not really money earned, but money saved. And its not like we didnt need a vacuum, our floors get really scuzzy and we have little ones who like to eat carpet junk, so it had to be done. Our budget was based off of what Ive saved in coupons, which was really neat.
You know what else we do? We save every coin that comes into our hands in a big beer mug. This is our Christmas fund. Ive yet to count it, but two weeks gets us about $20. Think how much that will be by December.
Maybe you could do some kind of small budgeting/saving for a household fund to buy your paint and stuff. If you normally spend $1.50 on Windex, and you use coupons and sales to get it for $.98, put the $.52 cents down as savings into the pot. Our grocery store shows exactly what was saved on each item, sale and coupon wise. If yours doesnt do that, then mental math it. But a house fund is apporpriate, its good to get things fixed and looking nice.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. Thanks for the tip!
